What's New at the Studio

We're excited to introduce candle making to our studio! You can now create stunning ceramic candles using your handmade pottery pieces. We have small sample shapes available in the space that you can use to see examples of appropriate candle vessels.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Candle making should ONLY be done AFTER you have fired and glazed your ceramic piece. The pottery must be fully finished before you can make it into a candle.

We've added everything you need to get started:

Wax Melter - Professional-grade melter for perfect wax temperature
Wicks - Various sizes available for different candle vessels
Scents & Fragrances - A selection of delightful scents to choose from
All Supplies Included - Everything you need for your candle-making journey

Candle Making Rules & Guidelines

When to Make Your Candle

Candle making is the FINAL step in the ceramic process. You must:

Create your ceramic piece on the wheel or through handbuilding
Let it dry completely
Bisque fire the piece
Glaze your piece
Final fire your glazed piece
THEN you can make it into a candle using the wax melter

Sample shapes are available in the studio - check them out to see examples of good candle vessel shapes before you create your own piece!

Personal Use

The candle making equipment is primarily intended for personal use. If you're making candles for yourself, friends, or family, you're welcome to use the studio's wax and supplies at no additional cost!

Selling Candles

If you plan to sell candles and make a large quantity, that's absolutely fine! However, we ask that you bring your own wax for commercial production. This helps us keep supplies available for everyone.

Wax Melter Safety

Warm-up Time: The wax melter needs to run for approximately 20 minutes before it's ready to pour. Please be patient and wait for it to reach the proper temperature.
When You're Done: Always turn off and unplug the wax melter when you're finished. Safety first!
Clean Up: Please clean up any spilled wax and return all supplies to their designated areas.

The Complete Process

Create Your Ceramic Piece

Throw on the wheel or handbuild your candle vessel. Check out the sample shapes in the studio for inspiration and to see what works well for candles.

Dry & Bisque Fire

Let your piece dry completely, then place it on the bisque cart for firing.

Glaze Your Piece

Choose your glazes and apply them to your bisque-fired piece.

Final Fire

Place your glazed piece on the glaze cart for the final firing.

NOW you can transform your finished ceramic piece into a candle!
